Quick Noms:Treats From Starbucks

Recovering from a hand injury has really changed up what kind of foods I can eat seeing I’m limited to using only one hand for the time being. My usual routine in the morning is to head to my local Starbucks a block away and grab coffee and a pastry for my snack later in the morning.

Starbucks added a couple new baked goods and sandwiches. I gave the new Banana Chocolate Chip muffin, Thumbprint Scone, reduced fat Coffee Cake and the reduced fat Banana Chocolate Chip Cake all a try.

Muffins are something I usually don’t get because there usually fat bombs.  I didn’t mind the muffin, it wasn’t dry or too greasy.  The dried banana chips on top I could have done without and I think the muffin would be better with real banana inside the muffin.  I’d say my favorite part of this was the chocolate chips that went throughout the muffin.

The Thumbprint Scone is the newest menu item they have.  Unlike the other larger triangle-shaped scones this one is a smaller round shape with the jam in the middle, I’m sure there both the same weight seeing there the same price.  It wasn’t overly sweet and there was a bit of bigger crystallized sugar on the top around the jam that added nice texture.  The jam actually went down pretty deep inside the scone to my surprise, this was my favorite part of the scone.  I’m not sure what kind of jam is used but it wasn’t too sweet or too tart.  The scone wasn’t too dry and it had a nice crumb to the texture, it is something to have with a drink though.

Reduced Fat Coffee Cake is something I picked up one day a while ago.  The cake had the texture of a sponge cake with a cinnamon and brown sugar swirl running through it.  The crumb topping was a nice touch but a bit messy to eat because it’s granular like regular sugar.

The Reduced Fat Banana Chocolate Chip Cake is something I used to get on a regular basis.  They recently reformulated this and now there is a mocha flavor to it and it’s a lot more moist and dense.  The one negative thing I would have to say is that banana is almost at the end of the ingredient list-like 3/4 of the way at the end and as we all know that if it’s almost at the end of the list it’s hardly in there.

Out of everything I tried I liked the scone the most and it was also the cheapest coming in at $1.95, everything else is priced at $2.25 plus tax.
