Nero Belgian Waffle Bar

Sweet treats are always good and there even better when an authentic Belgian waffle is involved. I saw Nero Belgian Waffle Bar a couple of weeks ago when I was going for dinner. It’s conveniently located in the 1700 block of Robson St a couple of doors up from my favorite Vietnamese places and a couple great ramen places so it’s perfect for after dinner dessert.  All the waffles are made fresh daily in-house and the location is owner-operated.  Seating wise the place is small and intimate, they also have a small patio out front.

The menu has some great looking savoury choices and some delicious looking sweet creations.  Seeing I just had ramen a couple of doors down I went with a sweet waffle for dessert.

I went with the Bresilienne Waffle.  It comes with vanilla ice cream, homemade hazelnut crunch, caramel sauce and heavenly cloud of whipped cream.  You get your choice of waffle and I went with the Liege option.

This was one sweet treat I must say.  The waffle was nice and chewy with a great sweetness from the sugar used in it, the liege waffles are the sweet brother to the Belgian version that doesn’t have the sugar in it.  Texture wise the hazelnut crumble added a great crunch and nutty flavor, I think if it wasn’t there the sweetness from all the other ingredients would overwhelm the waffle.  The caramel, ice cream and whipped cream rounded out the dish.  I’m not sure if the ice cream is made in-house but it tasted good, I’ve since found out that it is sourced from a private ice cream maker here in the city.  The waffle itself held together nicely, it was dense and chewy.  The sweetness wasn’t over powering and you could feel the crunch from the sugar inside when taking a bite of it.

My 1st visit to Nero already has me craving one of their savoury waffle creations.  There open from 11AM-11PM, 7 days a week.
