Street Food Friday:Arturo’s Mexico To Go

Arturo’s Mexico To Go is one of the original food truck vendors to hit the streets when our street food program launched here. He servers up Mexican fare that feature local produce, hormone free meats and healthy choices that don’t involve a lot of oil and saturated fat.  Located right down on Cordova Street by Waterfront Center, he’s got a line up everyday of return customers who work near by and the truck also attracts the tourists in the area looking for a quick bite.

Seeing it was my first time here I went with the Calle Trio for $9.50.  It comes with 3 soft corn tacos with your choice of meat (beef, chicken or pork), rice and black beans along with salad.

The salad on the side was alright.  Shredded iceberg lettuce make up the bulk of it, corn, cheese and pico de gallo were the rest of the toppings.  Dressing wise it was topped with a thinned out sour cream.  I could see how this would be refreshing if you were eating something really spicy.

Stewed black beans topped with Queso Fresco are on the side as well.  They were tender and the cheese added a light creaminess to them.

The bulk of the rest of the plate is rice.  The flavor was a mild and topped with tomatillo salsa.  For me this rice was overcooked and really wet-it left a big moist spot on the bottom of the paper container.

The Steak taco was alright.  The predominant flavor was cumin which kinda overwhelmed the steak.  The tomatillo salsa added a freshness to the taco which I liked.

The chicken taco had a great flavor to it.  The meat for the filling was cooked down nicely, the tomatoes and peppers added a nice savory note.

The pork taco was my favorite hands down.  The meat was melt in your mouth tender.  Flavor wise it was smokey and had a nice tang to it.  I really love how the taco was all meat!

If you’re in the mood for a quick Mexican bite and a place to eat close by with a waterfront view Arturo’s is there to fill that need.  You can check cart hours and days open on the Street Food App and also the Eat St app, both for iPhone and available in the App Store.
