C-Lovers Fish and Chips

For about a year now C-Lovers Fish and Chips has been open in my area, With all the sushi options and other worldly cuisine I was kind of surprised to see a fish and chip shop open, let alone one from a chain.

After seeing a ton of adverts and hearing good things from Sherman about the All You Can Eat option or AYCE for short I decided to go with that.  Upon ordering you get “bottomless” pop and bottles of ketchup and tartar sauce delivered to your table.  The tartar sauce was really good, it was nice and creamy with a perfect amount of tartness and no oiliness, I had to ask if it was house made and was informed by my server that it’s made especially for them.  For my drink I stuck with mostly water, you can switch out your pop for a pint of Okanagan Springs beer (not bottomless) for a couple bucks extra.

So when you place your order they batter and fry your fish so nothing is predone, I liked that.  You get 5 pieces of fish per plate at a time served on chips.

The fish for the AYCE special is Cod.  The fish was good, size wise it was alright-each piece was about as thick as my ring ringer and about 7″ long.  The batter was a total winner, it was nice and crunchy and not to thick on the fish.  I ended up eating 7 pieces of fish.

You could tell the chips were fresh and chipped in-house.  They had the crisp outside and tender inside without being too starchy.  I didn’t go nuts for the chips and only ate this plate.  They did need salt and I’m not sure if they add any when they come out of the fryer.

I also ordered some of their coleslaw, this was the small size which was about a cup for $2.50.  It had a nice creamy dressing and the cabbage was shredded nice and thin.  I really liked this and it helped break up all the fried stuff I was eating.  This is a standard item that you get with the regular fish and chip plates on the menu.

Overall my food was a standard fish and chip meal, food freshly fried fish and decent chips, if you like your fried food this is the place for you!  One thing I did notice was how at peak dinner time they only had 1 server working for the whole room so if I wanted anything I basically had to flag her down.  For $12 for the AYCE deal it was a good price if you can eat a lot of fish, the standard plates of food were HUGE and the fish was a lot bigger so if I visit again I’m just going to get a standard plate.

  1. It’s not Cod actually, it’s Pollock and no, we do not add salt or anything to our chips :) Glad you enjoyed your visit. I haven’t been to the Denman location myself
