Yaletown has a diverse dining selection, you can get everything from fine dining Italian to affordable delicious Japanese. One of my favorite places is serving up something totally unique-a modern take on the Vietnamese Banh Mi.

Besides great sandwiches they also have a line up of some pretty kick ass smoothies, the one that is a must try is the Avocado Smoothie.

One of my favorite banh mi’s is the Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi $7.00, it’s the perfect balance of grilled chicken thighs with aromatic lemongrass topped with pickled carrot and daikon radish, cucumber, cilantro, sweet chili aoli and jalapeno (I left the peppers off). The lemongrass is really infused into the meat nicely and the tangy flavor lingered in my mouth. The bread they use has that beautiful crunchy outside with the soft and tender inside that you look for in a good banh mi.

the star of my next banh mi

The other banh mi that I have enjoyed from DD Mau is the BBQ Duck Banh Mi $9.50 and I coupled it with there Lime Fizz drink $4. I had this on opening day and fell in love with it. The balance of ingredients really come through-the duck was a major part of the symphony of flavors but didn’t over take the sandwich. The lime fizz was the perfect drink on a hot day and is something that I’d recommend over a soda pop any day-it had a great balance of tart, sweet and cool that quenched my thirst.
I’d highly recommend that you visit DD Mau and get your sandwich on! They have inventive fillings that also include vegetarian options so everyone can get a taste of Vietnam in a bun.
