Bella Pizza has been open in Vancouver for many years started to Yaletown and now they’ve moved to the West End a couple blocks away from my apartment. I can remember years ago before the Neapolitan pizza craze ht Vancouver they had some pretty good pizza and were constantly named one of the best in the city from the Georgia Straight. They’ve relocated now (Between Two Buns took over their old space) so I thought I’d give them a try since I used to live out of the area that they delivered to before. The new space they have is more dine-in friendly with a bunch of 4 top tables and TV playing so you can catch a game while eating your pizza.
They have a daily special on Pepperoni Pizza’s and seeing it’s one of my favorite types of pizza’s I went with a medium size for around $10 bucks. Personally simpler is better for me especially with pizza, I find the flavors get lost when you over top pizza so a simple pepperoni and cheese is great with me.
The crust was nicely browned but was in the greasy side. Bella Pizza‘s crust is more on the thick doughy side but tasted good the downside is that it fills you up fast. I found my pizza to be alright but the sauce they used had more of a tomato paste flavor to it instead of a fresh tomato zing that I prefer but it’s good for “old school” pizza. If you like cheese then you’ll love Bella, they use a mozza/edam blend that added a great flavor and texture to the pizza. The pepperoni they used was more of the deli meat style than the smaller, more oily traditional pepperoni-I prefer the latter.
The pizza was alright for the price but I think since they’ve been given their awards there is some better pizza out in Vancouver.
