Quick Noms:Curry 2 U

The Granville Island Public Market is full of good food inspiration so after a day of hot chocolate some savory food was in order and after a 5 minute walk we were at the market.  Myself and Melissa checked over the offerings in the food court area, not wanting to break the bank or eat the over priced fish and chips I spotted Curry 2 U.  The prices were all pretty reasonable so we got a combo each and then the hunt for seating began.

Melissa went with the Butter Chicken combo for $8 bucks and change.  Besides the butter chicken and rice you also got to choose 2 other items, Melissa went with Daal and a potato dish.  I though the butter chicken was a weird color and it actually stopped my from ordering it myself.  Melissa thought it was OK but nothing to write home about.

For my meal I went with the 2 item combo with rice and naan.  With the items offered I chose a chicken curry and a fenugreek green bean and mushroom dish, you also get a small piece of naan all for $7.50.  The rice was alright but it was on the overcooked and wet side.  The chicken curry was flavorful with a mild heat to it, the pieces of chicken were bite sized and tender.  The green bean and mushroom dish was alright but the beans had the texture and mouth feel of canned beans and quite possibly the mushrooms were as well-mushrooms have a certain texture they develop from being canned that you can’t get rid of with cooking.

Overall the food did the job and it didn’t break the bank but if you’re looking for big Indian flavors I would keep looking.  One thing that I did like was how you can bring your Indian tiffin and get it filled for a reduced price-between $5 and $7.
