When I heard about a little yellow food cart on Pacific Street that was putting out 100% completely vegan sandwiches that could fool any seasoned carnivore I knew I had to stop by to see if this myth was indeed fact or fiction. The cart was packed with people both ordering and patiently waiting for their lunch, I checked out a side board that talked about the Loving Hut philosophy:
“Loving Hut was created with the vision that all beings can live in peace and harmony on our magnificent planet. As the first and fastest growing international vegan food chain with more than 200 locations throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America, Loving Hut restaurants continue to grow and branch out around the world. Vancouver BC’s Loving Hut Express Food Cart is one of the many individually owned and operated Loving Huts. As an accessible starting point for those making the noble transition to a plant-based diet, we invite you to enjoy vegan cuisine made from wholesome plant-based ingredients created with love. Loving Hut offers the community an alternative way of living. More and more people around the world are beginning to adopt a plant-based diet. It is a lifestyle that is healthy, compassionate, promotes peace and is the best way an individual can contribute to a sustainable planet.”
So it looked like a cheese burger with onion rings on it, the smell was just that of what I was looking at and when I dug in and took my first bite it COMPLETELY tasted just like a cheese burger! With all the classic toppings that go on a good burger I got all the textures and flavors I would look for and I definitely had that 4 napkin messy burger moment. They use a vegan cheese sauce that added to the messiness but it added such great flavor and the onion rings were some of the best I’ve had lately, I took them out of my burger to aid in ease of eating and I wanted to see what their texture was like. One thing that really blew me away was the patty they use, it had a similar texture to a beef patty with the right meaty flavor. All of this vegan deliciousness was wrapped in a gluten-free bun so after lunch I was full but without that lead weight feeling in my tummy-awesome.
The Loving Hut made a believer out of me and I’m looking forward to more healthy meals from the food cart. You can find them on Pacific Street at Davie in front of the Roundhouse Community Center, they can also be found on the Street Food App and Eat St. App or follow them on Twitter by clicking here.
