Quick Noms:La Taqueria Trio

A trip to the Fairview area for camera needs recently led to a quick-lunch at a place I’ve had good eats at in the past in my neighborhood-Mucho Burrito.  I’ve had great burrito bowls and salads before but something that caught my eye was the La Taqueria Trio, Inspired by Mexican street food tacos that are completely different from anything on the menu I thought these were a must try.  The tacos were priced at $9.25 for the trio, slightly high considering other option in the city but i will give them credit for being generous with the proteins.

First up we have the Guacagrilled Pineapple Carnitas, it’s slow roasted pork, adobo mole sauce, grilled pineapple, red cabbage, guacamole and onion chips.  I love a carnitas taco so I was looking forward to trying this.  The meat was on the dry side unfortunately but it wasn’t tough.  The crispy onions were something different for me and I liked them but I found the guacamole and sour cream muddled the flavors of the meat and adobo sauce.

Next up is the Mango Steak Tango.  They have combined Canadian Beef in the form of grilled steak, green mango slaw and a spicy aioli drizzle to finish things off.  This taco had a tang from the mango what was countered with the spicy aioli but I would have loved it more if the green mango slaw had crunch to it.  The meat was super tender and had nice spicing to it but again the sauce kinda over whelmed things.

Lastly I chowed down on the Fiery Chicken Chorizo Fiesta.  The taco has grilled chicken, chorizo crumble, coleslaw, habanero fig spread, guacamole and sour cream.  The favor and spicing of the meat was really good and they again were generous with the amount.  The habanero fig spread was spicy with a nice sweetness to it and was actually my favorite flavor of the taco.  Toppings wise I didn’t dig the huge piece of red cabbage used in my taco and I could have used a bit less guacamole and sour cream.

If you’re looking for something different from the usual burrito or soft taco the La Taqueria Trio is available till May 3, 2013 at your local Mucho Burriro.
